Job Summary: The Department of Population Health, Poultry Diagnostic and Research Center (PDRC), College of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Georgia invites applications for one non-tenure track Assistant Research Scientist position with a salary of $54,061/year. This position will develop laboratory assessments and conduct research projects related to the study of the ecology, host range, pathogenesis, transmission and immune responses to influenza viruses. In addition, the selected candidate may be involved in the evaluation of oncolytic potential of paramyxoviruses and orthomyxoviruses in a pancreatic cancer mouse model. The selected candidate will also build a grant and contract portfolio, publish original findings, and participate in the training of graduate students and visiting research scholars. On-going areas of research include: Influenza virus vaccine development and assessment in poultry species, mice and ferrets, assessment of virus co-infection potential, receptor binding plasticity, yield improvement of vaccine strains, modulation of the immune responses to influenza viruses. Minimum Qualifications: - PhD degree in Infectious Diseases, Veterinary Science, Molecular Biology or other related field required. - at least one peer reviewed publication - at least one year of experience with poultry research - at least one year of post-graduate experience working with select agents and working with viruses and animals under BSL-2 and BSL-3 conditions. - at least one year of post-doctoral training specific to influenza virus research.
Preferred Qualifications: Preference will be given to candidates who have at least one year of experience working with advanced molecular techniques, PCR, ELISA, serology and virology techniques, reverse genetics of influenza viruses, vaccine development, as well as experience working with mice, ferrets, chickens, quails and other avian species. It is also preferred that the selected candidate have at least one year of experience working with Newcastle disease virus and the related reverse genetic techniques, as well with avian immunology techniques.
