The Department of English invites applications for the position of Academic Coordinator in the Composition Program. This position can be full-time, comprised of a 25% appointment as Academic Coordinator and up to 75% teaching appointment as Lecturer; see next paragraph for Lecturer position description and requirements. Initial appointment is 1-year + 1-year renewable, and begins in the 2018-2019 academic year on July 01, 2018 and ends on June 30, 2020. The Academic Coordinator reports to the Director of the Composition Program, and the administrative duties of the position include but are not limited to working collaboratively with the Director, Course Directors, Assistant Course Directors, Composition's Administrative Staff, and the Coordinators of Summer Composition to…
- Facilitate communication across the Composition Program regarding instructional technologies and the delivery of online courses;
- Develop and maintain an archive of teaching resources regarding instructional technologies and the delivery of online courses;
- Assist with the training of the Program's Lecturers and its graduate student teachers in the use of instructional technologies and affordances.
This position is a program-wide coordinator role that attends to all of Composition's courses. The Academic Coordinator is also expected to engage in professional development and programmatic activities that pertain to the parameters of this position. The Annual salary as Academic Coordinator will be commensurate with experience within the range $54,744-$65,904.
Simultaneously, the Academic Coordinator is expected to hold a Lecturer position, and should be prepared to teach any of the Composition Program's courses: WR 39A, WR 39B/37, and WR 39C. The annual salary as Lecturer will be commensurate with experience within the range $53,402-$66,692.
NOTE: Recruitment for the Lecturer position is separate from the Academic Coordinator position in this advertisement, and any applicant for the Academic Coordinator position must apply separately for the Lecturer position if they have taught less than 18 quarters in UC Irvine's Composition Program. Qualifications: Ph.D. (preferred) in English or related fields. M.A. in Applied Linguistics, or an M.F.A degree also considered. Degree in hand by June 30, 2018. We welcome applicants from all disciplines and expect three years of teaching experience in first-year composition, experience in writing program or writing center administration, and a high-level of facility with online deliveries and instructional technologies as they pertain to post-secondary composition & rhetoric pedagogies.
