Nature of Work

This position performs the role of a Systems Administrator and is responsible for installing and maintaining servers, storage systems, network services and applications. Responsibilities include administers systems running Unix, /Linux, and Windows operating systems integrated into the network that provides services such as backups, disaster response/recovery, database, and web applications; assists in the specification, development, installation, and maintenance of information technology such as servers, storage systems, network services, and applications. Assists in developing technological solutions for process improvement, or to satisfy identified needs, through research, specification of hardware or software, creation of scripts and methods, and the production of documentation. Provide technical coordination between disparate groups. Coordinates activities with the ISO, ITS service desk, network services, or other information systems groups as required.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited four-year college or university in an IT related field, or a 2-year degree in an IT related field from an accredited technical college and 2 years related experience. At least 1 year of full-time work experience in systems administration in a UNIX-like/Linux environment. Knowledge of scripting, and experience with TCP/IP networking systems. Technical server management such as system specification, hardware installation, software configuration, security administration, and system documentation. Must be familiar with Window OS, Active Directory Domains, system backups, server hardware and peripherals, printers, network trouble shooting from cabling to TCP/IP and database management in general. A general understanding of virtual environments as it applies to servers and storage. Good written and verbal communications skills. Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret technical instruction in diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

Preferred Qualifications

2 years as a systems administrator 
Knowledge of Puppet and Git 
Knowledge of shell scripting, Active Directory, networking, and security 
Knowledge of PowerShell scripting 
Demonstrable knowledge of at least one cross-platform programming language 
Experience with VMware, Hyper-V, AWS, KVM, and / or Xen


$45,540.00/yrly Minimum - $58,632/yrly Midpoint

Physical Requirements/Working Conditions

Must be able to lift 40 pounds and work under somewhat adverse conditions at times. Normal office environment. This position is expected to comply with the University’s standard working hours. In addition, this position must be available outside of normal working hours, including nights and weekends, to complete routine system maintenance, or respond to emergency system outages.
