Position Summary:
COBA Student Services. The Academic Advisor provides students with in-depth information concerning course descriptions, program requirements, graduation requirements, prerequisites and registration; and assists in developing academic schedules, addressing students' concern by providing support, resource information, and referrals.

Essential Functions

  • Assists students in developing meaningful and appropriate educational and career plans in support of the University's retention, graduation, and student success goals.
  • Helps students understand curricular expectations and academic policies and procedures.
  • Refers students as appropriate to campus resources and services.
  • Assists with course selection, registration process, and early alert programs.
  • Maintains student records, exercising discretion and confidentiality.
  • Monitors academic progress of students by analyzing progress reports from faculty.
  • Communicates effectively in person and electronically with a wide variety of constituencies.
  • Participates in orientation sessions, including presentations, advisement, and registration.

    Bachelor’s Degree

    Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
    Effective communication (verbal and written), organization and human relations skills; ability to work well in a diverse environment; proficiency with computer and Microsoft Office Applications software including word processing, spreadsheets, and databases; successful completion of background investigation prior to employment.

    Preferred Education:
    Master’s Degree in Higher Education, Counseling or related field

    Preferred Experience::
    One or more years of higher education experience; experience using Banner and Degree Works

    Salary Range: Up to a budgeted maximum of $35,000
