About the Unit
Bridging the Gap: Reducing Disparities in Diabetes Care (' Bridging the Gap' ) is a major 5-year initiative that aims to improve access to high-quality care and reduce disparities for vulnerable and underserved populations with type 2 diabetes in the United States. The initiative promotes inter-sectoral collaborations that bring together stakeholders from inside and outside the health care system to address disparities in health outcomes. The University of Chicago serves as the National Program Office (NPO) for Bridging the Gap (BTG), and works in collaboration with its funder, the Merck Foundation. The NPO will manage the administration of the programmatic elements of Bridging the Gap , and conduct a rigorous cross-site evaluation of program. The NPO will collaborate with the Foundation, grantees and a network of strategic partners to promote innovative strategies to improve diabetes care among vulnerable populations, disseminate the work and findings of Bridging the Gap , and provide leadership and vision that meaningfully contributes to the national discourse on health equity.
Dissemination and Translation Activities Management
- Coordinate the design and implementation of products and tools that draw upon lessons learned from Bridging thd Gap grantees, and prior technical assistance programming which contain findings that have the promise to reduce healthcare inequalities in racial and ethnic minority populations, and to improve overall quality of care.
- Frequently engages in writing-intensive activities, and works closely with all members of the BTG team to distill details of grantee interventions to create educational materials and implementation manuals that will be usable by organizations seeking to translate the program findings to different or larger scale settings.
- Examples of specific dissemination and translation activities may include:
- 1) Creating and disseminating toolkits and other hands-on intervention implementation resources.
2) Creating and delivering webinars on specific model interventions and best practices.
3) Revising the program web site to create a more user-friendly and interactive dissemination resource.
4) Presenting at meetings/conferences about successful approaches to reduce disparities.
Academic Research and Writing Management
- Conduct thorough academic reviews of the scientific published and unpublished literature as assigned for the Bridging the Gap project and other health care disparities research programs in the Department of Medicine.
- In conjunction with the Bridging the Gap Directors and Deputy Director, refine and revise broad research questions into manageable research hypotheses and aims.
- Utilizing these hypotheses and research aims, conduct literature reviews and summarize clear and concise findings.
- Actively participate in team meetings. Assist as a co-author on scientific journal articles, including the development and maintenance of literature databases utilizing Endnote software.Conduct.
General Program Management and Administrative Support
- Interact with internal and external customers in a professional and courteous manner.
- Communicate effectively in both a written and oral format with a broad range of individuals within and external to the University of Chicago community.
- Meet regularly as a member of the interdepartmental team.
- Work independently and within teams on special nonrecurring and ongoing projects, ensuring that the project progresses according to specified time parameters associated with the various stages of the project.
- This includes the coordination of appropriate project support staff.
- Assist administrative support staff, including the development and implementation of Web conferences and annual meetings/conferences.
- Assist the Directors and Deputy Director in preparation, review, and production of various externally focused brochures, reports and Web conferences.
- Faxing, filing, deliveries, copying, data entry, and other duties as assigned.
- Provide coverage for administrative support staff, when needed.
- Impeccable problem-solving/analytic skills with an ongoing attention to detail required.
- Excellent proven writing and editing skills and ability to synthesize and translate complicated material into clear and simple language required.
- Excellent proven verbal communication and presentation skills required.
- Superb organizational, time management and prioritization skills and proven experience coordinating a variety of activities in a timely manner required.
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor's degree required.
- Master's degree preferred.
- One year of relevant research experience preferred.
