Hourly Pay Rate/Salary Based on hourly staff, level 3: Starting hourly rate of $16.62 and midpoint of $19.11. Rate will be commensurate with qualifications.
Hours per Week Hours will vary 10-40/week based on course needs, not to exceed average of 19.5 hours/week or 1014 hours annually.
Work Schedule There are currently two regular schedules for CVTC Truck Driver Training sections. One section meets Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday from 7 a.m. – 5 p.m.; and the other meets Tuesday and Thursday from 5 p.m. – 10 p.m., AND Saturday 7 a.m. – 5 p.m. In addition, CDL classes are offered from 6:30 a.m. – 11:25 a.m. or 1:30 p.m. – 6:25 p.m. Monday – Friday and potentially Sundays.

Overview and Responsibilities
Under the direction of the truck driving instructors, instructional assistants are responsible for operating the Collision Avoidance Training (CAT) range, demonstrating diesel truck driving and related operational skills to students, administering tests, maintaining records, preparing reports, and performing related functions.
- Demonstrate vehicle operation, including shifting techniques, how to couple and uncouple semi-trailer combinations, vehicle inspection, and scaling.
- Demonstrate and supervise students driving under a variety of environments and driving conditions, including straight line backing, developing depth perception, making turns, backing into docks and parking places, mirror adjustment, and how to use large mirrors and convex mirrors.
- Set up lab equipment for daily activities.
- Fuel trucks as needed.
- Ability to drive all truck and trailer combinations offered in the truck driving program.
- Ability to effectively explain information to a variety of persons and instruct others in various aspects of the department and the College.
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment.

- Basic knowledge of and skills with technology including software programs for communication, data collection, and decision making including, but not limited to, Microsoft Office Outlook, Word, and Excel.
- Three years of experience operating tractors with 48' or 53' trailer required, seven years of experience strongly preferred.
- Current Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) required.
- DOT medical exam certificate and pre-employment drug test required.
- Acceptable driving record required.
- Formal truck driving training and experience with reefer trucks, dry vans, and tandem trucks preferred.
