Job Summary


This position participates in the development, implementation, and management of information security solutions to protect institution resources against unauthorized access, disclosure, modification, or destruction. The position researches and identifies threats & vulnerabilities as well as supports security incident investigation and remediation efforts. This is a Professional Exempt Contractual (PEC) position for which an annual contract reflecting the base salary within the fiscal year (July 1st to June 30th) will be issued after ratification by Miami Dade College's District Board of Trustees.


Duties & Responsibilities


  • Plans, designs, documents, implements, and administrates security controls which safeguard access to information technology services while minimizing the impact to users
  • Performs security assessments of 3rd party technology solutions
  • Identifies potential areas where information security policies and procedures require change or where new ones need to be developed
  • Works with other departments to define role based access control, segregation of duties, and implement secured business processes
  • Develops new or modifies existing security controls, processes, policies and procedures in accordance with changes in laws or regulations
  • Performs security assessments of internal processes and systems; recommends mitigating actions
  • Investigates security incidents, creates, and distributes related reports
  • Promotes and administrates security awareness among the user community
  • Designs, documents and maintains security controls designed for disaster recovery
  • Researches and recommends security software and hardware
  • Stays abreast of the latest security trends, privacy laws, regulations, threats, and vulnerabilities
  • Maintains communication with vendors regarding security system updates and technical support of security products
  • Contributes to the training and development of IT personnel in direct support of information security
  • Performs other duties as assigned



Minimum Requirements


  • Bachelors degree from an accredited institution in Business, Computer Science, Management Information System, Engineering, or a related field and eight (8) years of progressive experience in information technology industry; or a Masters degree with four (4) years of experience in information technology industry to include at least three (3) years of experience in network, system, or application security administration, IT audit, or compliance
  • All degrees must be from a regionally accredited insitution
  • Knowledge of authentication, IT services access policies, and related internal and external security considerations
  • Knowledge of network, system, or enterprise application administration
  • Knowledge of relational database systems and SQL experience
  • Knowledge of Windows and/or Linux operating systems, IP data network, testing, monitoring and management
  • Knowledge of information technology trends and impact on related security procedures and processes and the current and developing information technology services requirements in a large educational institution
  • Possess strong interpersonal skills and the ability to effectively communicate with a wide range of individuals and constituencies in a diverse community
  • Possess strong analytical skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to successfully manage, coordinate, and deploy complex technical projects
  • Ability to provide project leadership and mentorship
  • Ability to understand and clearly relate to other members of the organization, technical manuals, software specifications and general methods of IT operations and security
  • Ability to train new or existing employees on department operational practices and procedures
  • Ability to write and develop IT related design and development documentation, reports, business correspondence, process, and procedure manuals
  • Ability to work in a multi-ethnic/multi-cultural environment with students, faculty, and staff
