Minimum Education/Experience: Master's degree in Educational Counseling, Counseling, Psychology, Learning Disabilities/Special Education or related field Minimum of two years of counseling experience in post-secondary setting Knowledge of psychological and educational assessments, academic remediation and learning skills and psychomotor development Excellent counseling skills in individual and group settings Effective interpersonal, communication, coaching/mentoring and public speaking skills Demonstrated cultural competence and commitment to work with diverse populations

Job Duties: The Learning Specialist for the ECU SoDM collaborates with faculty to advance strategies for enhancing student learning and works with students who are experiencing difficulty in achieving expected educational outcomes in the didactic, problem-based, case-based, preclinical and clinical realms within the Doctor of Dental Medicine curriculum. The individual develops an understanding of the unique features of the DMD curriculum, including psychomotor skills, collaborative learning and patient interactions. The individual formulates intervention and remediation strategies for at-risk students and oversees support strategies and resources for all students. This position reports to the Director of Counseling and Student Development. In alignment with the mission of the School to provide educational opportunities for educationally qualified individuals from underrepresented groups, disadvantaged backgrounds and underserved areas, this position identifies and assesses potential barriers to student success in all dimensions of the curriculum, supports student development of individualized success plans, assists in coordinating the student tutoring program, and develops enrichment programs to enhance success for all students. Specific Duties Develops academic interventions in coordination with the Office of Academic Success and through individual meetings with at-risk students In collaboration with the Office of Counseling and Student Development, provides proactive academic counseling in effective learning skills, study strategies, assessment of learning styles and time management Supports students' preparation for didactic, preclinical and clinical assessments Assists students with development of individualized learning plans Consults and collaborates with individual faculty and the Office of Academic Success in developing remediation plans and supplemental instruction Maintains communication with faculty and staff in support of students In collaboration with the Office of Counseling and Student Development, develops and implements learning workshops and enrichment programs for all students Assists with tutoring program through advising, tutor training and tracking of student performance Collaborates with faculty and tutors regarding enhancement of psychomotor skills for students with identified deficiencies Monitors and tracks individual student performance in a case management style
