Degree and Area of Specialization:
Graduate (masters) degree in nursing is required.
Doctoral degree (Doctor of Nursing Practice, PhD, or other doctoral degree) is strongly preferred.
Minimum number of years and type of relevant work experience:
* One or more years of experience in teaching at undergraduate or graduate levels in nursing, or in professional staff development in acute care settings; and
* Three or more years of professional experience in an acute care setting as a registered nurse (RN), advanced practice registered nurse (APRN) or Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS).
Individuals with certification as advanced practice registered nurses, clinical nurse specialists, or as nurse educators are highly encouraged to apply, however, certification is not required.
Successful candidates will demonstrate strong interest in and commitment to the teaching mission of the School. Experience with clinical instruction, active learning, concept-based teaching, simulation, and inter-professional education is highly desirable.
Appointments for candidates prepared at the Masters level will be at the rank of Clinical Instructor. Appointments for candidates prepared at the doctoral level will typically be at the Clinical Assistant Professor rank. Appointments at the Clinical Associate Professor rank are possible but will require an exceptionally strong record of professional practice, teaching experience, and scholarship.
License or certificate:
RN licensure or eligibility for licensure in Wisconsin is required.
Clinical faculty hired under this PVL will have academic year (9 month, C basis) appointments and be responsible for undergraduate (traditional and accelerated programs) instruction and evaluation of student learning in the classroom, in simulated care environments, and through experiential learning in acute care and community health settings in academic year and summer terms. Assignment to teach in graduate programs is also possible depending on expertise, qualifications, and program need. Clinical faculty collaborate with colleagues in course and curriculum development, improvement, and evaluation. Clinical faculty engage in service activities aimed at accomplishing the mission and strategic vision of the School of Nursing including committees and taskforces. Clinical faculty pursue scholarly activities individually or in scholarship teams that advance nursing science, education, or practice. Clinical faculty contribute to School of Nursing and University of Wisconsin-Madison goals for diversity and inclusive excellence.
