Position Summary: The Department of Family Medicine at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, a national leader in innovative clinical care and teaching, invites applications to apply for an open rank fixed-term research faculty position. The focus of the position is on conducting public health systems research and program evaluation. The successful candidate will collaborate with researchers within Family Medicine, with other University Departments, and with researchers at other Universities on new and ongoing studies. Applicants must have a strong publication record and evidence of potential for developing an independent research program supported by extramural funding. Areas of research could include, preventive medicine, chronic disease, and/or public health, among others. This position will need to generate scholarly productivity by producing 2-4 research manuscripts annually and developing research proposals. Dissemination of presentations and publications at the national, local and state levels is expected. The position will also serve as the Preventive Medicine Residency (PMR) Program Director and will be tasked with leading and expanding the PMR program. The UNC PMR offers two years of training, the academic year and the practicum year. The academic year consists of full-time course work in one of several departments of the School of Public Health, leading to the MPH degree. The practicum year is a closely supervised experience that primarily involves completion of a specific preventive medicine research project and rotations in public health and health care administration. Most successful applicants to the UNC PMR have already completed a residency in a primary care specialty. Faculty rank and salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience. The Department prefers full-time positions, but is willing to negotiate to no less than .75 FTE (full time equivalent).

Education Requirements: MD or DO required | Fellowship training and/or an advanced degree (e.g. MPH) is highly desirable, but not mandatory.
Qualification and Experience: Candidates must have an interest and previous research experience with chronic disease, preventive medicine, and/or public health. This position requires excellent writing and analytic skills. Must have strong interpersonal skills and the ability to develop and maintain positive and productive relationships within and outside of the Department, including project funders and clients. Proficient with computer software programs including Windows Operating System, Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
