College Philanthropy Officer/Major Gifts

Job description

The College of Arts and Sciences is seeking a Philanthropy Officer who is responsible for major gift fundraising. Reporting directly to the Director of Philanthropy, this position will have a primary focus on major gift fundraising at high giving levels, engaging in sophisticated giving conversations with prospects of medium to large giving capacity. Responsibilities of this position include but are not limited to: identification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of prospects with a giving capacity of $25,000 or more; developing and maintaining a well-rounded portfolio of between 125 and 150 donors and prospects, and making a minimum of 180 substantive face-to-face visits with major gift donors and prospects a year in order to advance the philanthropic relationship between them and the university; a minimum of 20 - 30 major gift proposals/solicitations prepared and delivered annually is required; closing a minimum of 15 - 20 gifts annually with an additional 5 - 8 in the pipeline for solicitation the following year, raising a minimum of $750,000 - $1.5 million annually as a direct result of individual portfolio activity; being an active participant in the daily activities of the college, particularly those relating to philanthropy; under the direction of the director, the incumbent will connect with associate deans, college administration, department heads, faculty, and staff as appropriate on philanthropic initiatives in their respective units; may supervise, train, and/or mentor other fundraisers and support staff, as assigned; and be able to strongly articulate the University of Kentucky's needs, values, ambitions, fundraising priorities through excellent verbal and written communications.

This position requires an individual who understands all forms of annual giving appeals, including direct mail, social media, electronic giving, and the like. Excellent communication skills with the ability to articulate convincingly the vision and priorities of the College and University are necessary. Familiarity with segmented annual giving (including high-end and young alumni giving) as well as demonstrated experience in marketing and persuasive writing is important. A willingness and ability to travel frequently are strongly preferred.

Professional fund raising experience and a demonstrated record of success. Must be a results-oriented individual with demonstrated experience working effectively with a diverse group of donors. Ability and experience to work with College and the University's Office of Philanthropy to establish, implement, and evaluate annual giving plans and goals.
