About the Unit
The University of Chicago Medicine's Center for Asian Health Equity is the only research center in the Midwest to address the diverse health care needs of Asian Americans and other immigrant populations. The Center builds teams that span disciplines and sectors across the University and diverse Asian American and other immigrant communities to address health disparities, translate evidence into practical interventions, conduct public education, and use data to inform health policy. A vital part of the Center's mission is its strong and sustained community engagement with more than 25 Asian American organizations across the Chicago metropolitan area. Through this engagement, the Center elevates Asian American voices and enhances Asian American representation in conducting and participating in community-engaged research. The Center fulfills a critical need to improve the health of these under served populations to advance health equity.

Job Summary:

The Center for Asian Health Equity (CAHE) is seeking a highly motivated Research and Program Evaluation Director to advance our portfolio focused on Asian and other immigrant health disparities. This individual will work closely with Center researchers to advance the policy, system, and environmental strategies and evidence-based community and clinic interventions through the development of dissemination products focused on implementation science and program service delivery. These programs range in scope from infectious and chronic disease to advance heath equity for Chicago's Asian American other immigrant communities. Projects include the promotion of healthcare education, access, and utilization; culturally-tailored programming for diseases such as hepatitis B, diabetes, and cardiovascular health; community-based education, screening, and linkage to care; and other health programming within Asian American communities across the Chicago area.

The Research and Program Evaluation Director will work independently and collaboratively to design, develop, and implement scientific research and development of work for addressing fundamental questions in the field of health disparities. This role requires skills and expertise in or to oversee and supervise patient-oriented research in clinical and community-based settings with diverse populations for the following topics: shared-decision making for chronic conditions in racial and ethnic minority patients and their health care providers; targeted interventions to reform and align health care delivery and payment to reduce health care disparities; business case studies of health care transformation efforts; current strategies, evolving best practices, and future directions in the development of the intersectoral health system and implementation science; development and validation of new tools and measures; organizational surveys as well as surveys of patient experience and provider and staff experience in federally qualified health centers; interventions to assess integrated care from the perspective of providers and patients; multifactorial interventions to improve diabetes care and reduce racial and ethnic disparities in diabetes; and quality improvement and coaching to improve care for chronic conditions in community health centers.

Responsibilities:
  • Initiate the day-to-day activities of all research projects, including creating, implementing, monitoring & updating recruitment project plans; facilitating meetings and training sessions with appropriate parties; tracking tasks/deliverables to ensure timelines, milestones &/or goals are attained.
  • Monitor, analyze & report research study progress in a quantifiable manner; resolving &/or escalating issues in a timely manner.
  • Oversee data collection, evaluation and analysis the data collections and research team to design surveys and design and manage databases.
  • Manage large scale survey administration; design focus group and interview guides.
  • Conduct interviews and focus groups.
  • Conduct chart abstraction for patient medical records.
  • Provide support and coaching to outpatient clinics and other institutional initiatives focused on quality improvement for chronic conditions.
  • Conduct literature reviews.
  • Develop and update IRB protocols for individual studies.
  • Train and oversee the work of research support personnel.
  • Write reports, articles and manuscripts.
  • Present research findings at meetings, conferences, and community forums as well as to funding agencies and other community-level and policy-level stakeholders.
  • May manage other administrative aspects of the research project, including tracking project expenditures, participating in funding negotiations, and assisting with grant and manuscript preparation.


Competencies:
  • Expertise in statistical programming (SPSS, SAS or Stata) required.
  • Strong communications effectively both orally and in writing required.
  • Ability to summarize data effectively for a variety of audiences required.
  • Ability to multitask and prioritize required.
  • Knowledgeable in monitoring and evaluation methods required.


Additional Requirements

Education and Experience:
  • Ph.D.(or PhD equivalent) in a science related field required.
  • 3 years of relevant experience required.
