Position Summary

The University's seventeen teams compete as members of NCAA Division I and the Southern Conference.

The Assistant Coach is one of the positions responsible for administering all of the year-round activities of the basketball program. The Assistant Coach is directly responsible to the Head Coach in all matters related to the operation of this program and is responsible for handling game and practice coaching assignments throughout the year, as well as, supervising out-of-season conditioning programs for the team.

Recruiting prospective student-athletes is an essential element of the Assistant's responsibilities. Development and coordination of a recruiting network is an ongoing activity requiring travel throughout the United States during the entire year. The Assistant Coach will use discretion and personal judgment in the assessment of talent and recommendation for scholarship assistance.

Once the student-athlete has matriculated, the Assistant Coach is primary in the weekly monitoring of the student-athletes' academic progress. The Assistant Coach will communicate with the department's Spartan Academic Support Services personnel and assist in student-athletes' academic action plans. Other administrative duties related to this position would include providing assistance with scheduling of contests, summer camps, and on and off-campus recruiting, as well as, speaking engagements.

The position requires someone with initiative and an energy level that will enable the individual to work long hours.

The position does include evening and weekend assignments.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree
  • Knowledge of NCAA rules as they apply to Division I athletics

Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's degree
  • Intercollegiate participation and/or previous coaching experience in men's basketball
  • Certified in CPR/First Aid
