The Integrated Teaching and Learning (ITL) Program welcomes applications for a Digital Media and Technical Editor. The ITL Program at CU Boulder, a nationally recognized, award-winning innovation in engineering education leader, supports hands-on engineering learning through an innovative environment in which students integrate engineering theory with practice and learning through doing. This position writes content, provides editorial support, generates digital media, including webpages, videos and newsletters, and manages communications for the TeachEngineering Digital Library and its users, authors and reviewers. TeachEngineering, which is part of the ITL Program, aims to be the premier, free K-12 engineering education curricular collection that empowers educators and youth to employ engineering practices, habits of mind and design thinking for creating a better world. This position primarily serves the TeachEngineering Digital Library in the ITL Program in the College of Engineering and Applied Science, but has additional responsibilities related to the overall success of the ITL Program. The role is collaborative in nature and works within a team of engineering education professionals to promote and provide free, hands-on curricular resources for STEM educators. Proof of eligibility to work in the United States must be produced within three (3) days of hire.

Who we are:

The Integrated Teaching and Learning (ITL) Program hosts or collaborates with other College of Engineering and Applied Science departments on many K-12 engineering education initiatives, offering a wide range of hands-on engineering opportunities for K-12 teachers and students, faculty and the general public. The award-winning ITL Program is committed to creating a more diverse student population at CU Boulder and broadening the exposure of K-12 students-particularly students of color, young women, low-income and first-generation college-bound students-to engineering.

What your key responsibilities will be:



Editorial Support for the TeachEngineering Digital Library
  • Design, update, and maintain the TeachEngineering curricular collection.
  • Maintain the use and upkeep of the Online Journal Submissions (OJS) portal for the TeachEngineering team.
  • Perform professional technical editing of curricular lesson plans and activity write-ups through all stages of the publishing process while maintaining editorial, formatting and stylistic conventions.
  • Generate and edits digital media content for the digital library, including video, webpages, webinars and newsletters.
  • Provide guidance to authors and reviewers through the submission-to-publication process for the NSF-funded digital library. Maintains author/reviewer online help documents.
  • Maintain the use and upkeep of the shared Google tracking documents.
  • Track and generate reporting statistics around TeachEngineeringpublishing accomplishments for internal use and for dissemination to the college and other TeachEngineering partners.

Technical Writing Support
  • Work closely with ITL Co-directors, TeachEngineering staff and Engineering Plus faculty to help author and/or edit several strategically-aligned, high-quality funding proposals annually. Plays a key role in creating and preparing National Science Foundation proposals, dissecting the solicitation details and helps create a proposal outline that addresses every key point.
  • Help write and edit conference and journal articles annually.
  • Provide quality assurance for all grant reports issued by the ITL Program.

TeachEngineering Digital Library Communications
  • Triage incoming author, reviewer and user communications to TeachEngineering.
  • Oversee and manage external relations, including the signing of contributor agreements, with the principal investigators of grants whose authors submit curriculum to the digital library.
  • Manage and maintain TeachEngineering social media content and accounts; delegates work to student staff.
  • Manage and maintain TeachEngineering's marketing presence on Amazon Inspire and Teachers Pay Teachers to enable educators to easily find content to improve learning outcomes for students.
  • Write K-12 content for TeachEngineering's monthly Editor's Picks blog and for quarterly educator newsletters.
  • Lead and help create webinars for potential TeachEngineering authors.

What we can offer:

The anticipated starting salary for this position is $48,000.00, commensurate with experience.

Qualifications

What we require:
  • Bachelor's degree.
  • One-year of professional-level experience in technical writing and/or editing, journalism, communication, public relations or marketing, or other relevant field.
    • A combination of relevant education, training and/or experience may be substituted on a year-for-year basis.

  • Ability to handle confidential information in an appropriate manner.
  • Sensitivity to, and appreciation of, cultural, political and geographical differences-with ability to work well with faculty, staff and students from around the world.

What we'd like you to have:
  • Three-years of professional-level experience in technical writing, digital media publishing, journalism, communication, public relations or marketing in higher education environment.
  • First-hand experience training, coursework or experience in engineering or the sciences as a teacher, counselor or instructor, in any setting.
  • Technical editing experience.
  • Knowledge of social media sites, such as Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube.
  • Experience with database software, compiling statistics, developing and manipulating complex spreadsheets; experience with word processing and presentation software.
  • Experience working with engineering students and faculty in a higher education environment.
  • Sensitivity to, and appreciation of, cultural, political and geographical differences-with ability to work well with faculty, staff and students from around the world.

Preferred qualifications may be used to further reduce the pool of applicants to those who are most highly qualified.
