Posting Summary:
The Department of Emergency Medicine is seeking multiple Medical Scribes. This position splits time between providing research assistance for Emergency Medicine faculty clinical research projects and providing real-time on-site medical transcription for resident and attending physicians in the Emergency Department.
With respect to research, the position assists the Emergency Medicine Clinical Research Coordinators with current faculty clinical research projects. The position works directly with patients to obtain informed consent, patient data, and specimens as required by protocols; enters data into project databases; and assists with study documentation.
With respect to medical transcription, the position is responsible for accompanying physicians on patient encounters and ensuring accurate completion of all medical documentation. The position also serves as a general documentation assistant to the physician, ensuring appropriate and timely review of pertinent past medical records and laboratory and radiology results as needed.
A Bachelor's degree is required, preferably in a pre-med related field, such as biology, chemistry, physics, etc. No equivalency accepted, and the degree must be obtained by the date of hire. A minimum of six months of real-time medical transcriptionist scribe experience is required, preferably in emergency medicine. Related student experience may be considered.
This position is restricted and contingent upon the continuation of funding.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
1. Knowledge and fluency in medical terminology.
2. Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
3. Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, and ability to multi-task.
