Job Summary:

This position provides the primary fiscal support for the UW Food Research Institute (FRI). The Institute is a complexly funded unit whose annual budget is approximately $3 million, payrolled personnel include faculty, academic and classified staff, graduate students and undergraduate hourly. This position independently processes, reviews, audits and reconciles routine and complex financial transactions for the Institute such as deposits, requisitions, work orders, travel reimbursement, payments to individuals, payments to vendors, procard transactions and purchases. The administration and management of these very detailed and complex financial operations include a variety of funding sources including: 101, 133, 135, 136, 142, 144, 150, 233 and foundation funds. Responsibility includes interpretation and knowledge of a broad variety of projects and accounting transactions, resolving problems relative to fiscal matters along with implementing operational and procedural changes.

The position requires extensive written and oral communication skills and the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with UW faculty/staff, administrative offices, and the general public. The ability to work independently, to exercise sound judgment and discretion, in developing, applying and interpreting UW financial policies and procedures, is imperative. The incumbent has signature authority for the Institute and signs off on delegated departmental financial transactions.

These duties are performed under general supervision of the Academic Department Manager in compliance with university and agency guidelines within procedures established by the Academic Department Manager.

The percentage of time for this position is negotiable between 75% and 100%.
