Description: Responsibilities related to planning, planting, and phenotyping field experiments investigating the genetic basis of abiotic stress tolerance and resource use efficiency in C4 crops

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

Work on field experiments on C4 crops including:
  • Controlling and managing unmanned phenotyping vehicles such as aerial drones or rovers for in-field data collection.
  • Collaborating with post-doctoral scientists and graduate students to perform field preparation, micromet monitoring, phenotypic data collection, organization and shipping of samples to project partners, end-of-season biomass harvests.
  • Supervising undergraduate field assistants (hire, train, assign/review work, address work issues, approve time, set work schedules, and set goals).
  • Work will require lifting up to 40lbs unassisted.


Education:

Required: BSc in Natural Sciences, Engineering or related field

Preferred: MSc in Natural Sciences, Engineering or related field

Experience:

Required: Previous experience with unmanned aerial or ground vehicles. Previous experience using large farm equipment such as tractors, and comfortable with driving trucks.

Training, Licenses or Certifications:

Required: Obtaining Restricted-Use Pesticide training and certification is required.

Knowledge Requirements:

Required: Advanced knowledge of relevant APHIS procedures, including inspection and reporting. Advanced understanding of the mode of action of applicable chemical agents. Effective communication, personal relations, organizational, and leadership skills. Demonstrated ability to perform effectively under minimal supervision with a professional demeanor in a fast-paced work environment with multiple and changing priorities. Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills

Salary will be commensurate with experience and qualifications. This position is a 12-month, 100% time academic professional appointment with regular University benefits. The proposed starting date is negotiable after the close date.
