The responsibilities of the Summer Laboratory Assistant will include
learning molecular biology
techniques and standard cell culture techniques for culture of human
airway epithelial cells and
airway fibroblasts. These techniques to be learned include quantitative
real-time reverse-
transcriptase PCR, siRNA transfection, Western blotting, ELISA,
air-liquid interface cell culture,
trypsinization and sterile technique for cell culture, experimental
design, statistical analysis, and
RNA extraction. All work by the student will be under constant
supervision of Dr. Jennifer L.
Ingram, Assistant Professor in the Division of Pulmonary, Allergy, and
Critical Care Medicine,
Duke University Department of Medicine.
