Position Description

Advertised Job Summary

The Assistant to the President for System Affairs reports directly to the President and works closely with the President and Chancellors on a wide variety of administrative and executive duties, special projects, and initiatives involving the University of South Carolina (USC) system. The purpose of the position is to provide strategic and operational support to the President and Chancellors in the leadership, planning, and coordination of activities among the USC system institutions in order to leverage the overall strengths of the USC system while promoting and supporting the distinct mission and values of the individual USC system institutions.

The Assistant to the President for System Affairs works directly with the Chancellors to develop and coordinate special and high priority system projects and initiatives. This position will be a primary point of contact for responding to USC system questions, concerns, issues and requests on the President's behalf; providing administrative and communications coordination with the BOT Committee on System Affairs; and coordinating work with a variety of internal and external constituencies.
This position helps to articulate the USC system's strategic value and importance as a multi-sector system of institutions (R-1, comprehensive, and regional two-year) of higher education within the state and serves as a senior administrator and member of the President's Executive Council.

Minimum Qualifications (Classified and Unclassified positions)

A bachelor's degree and seven years progressively responsible experience in higher education administration. (Master's degree preferred.)
