Requisition Title: Assistant Professor, Teaching Stream-Pharmacy - 1702308

The Leslie Dan Faculty of Pharmacy at the University of Toronto invites applications for up to two full time teaching-stream appointments. The appointments will be at the rank of Assistant Professor, Teaching Stream and are anticipated to begin July 1, 2018.

Candidates must have completed a PharmD, or an equivalent doctoral degree in a related field, or a minimum of five years clinical experience with either a Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy followed by at least a 1-year hospital or ambulatory care pharmacy residency, or an MSc in a relevant field (or equivalent). In addition candidates must have experience teaching in one or more of the following areas: Medication Therapy Management Skills Labs, Experiential Education, Pharmacotherapy, Physical Assessment and Immunization and/or Primary Care. All candidates must have a record of demonstrated excellence in teaching; and a well-developed teaching philosophy. Currently holding (or being eligible for) a Part A license to practice pharmacy in Ontario is considered an asset.

Experience teaching both large and small-sized classes, creating student-centred learning environments, designing and developing innovative curriculum as well as demonstrated commitment to pedagogical research are required. Demonstrated leadership in education and leading diverse teams will be considered a strong asset. Candidates must show:

  • Teaching ability including mastery of the subject area(s), strong communication skills, previous experience coordinating and teaching large classes and previous experience with experiential education.
  • Contribution to curriculum development including use of innovative and evidence-informed design of teaching activities and assessments.
  • Educational leadership and mentoring.
  • Experience conducting, or contributing to, pedagogical (educational) research which may be demonstrated for example by publications, presentation of education innovations at education or professional conferences.
  • Demonstrated ability to contribute to the educational mission of the Faculty.

Excellence in teaching and pedagogical practices can be demonstrated by the teaching dossier submitted as part of the application, to include a teaching statement, previous teaching activities and teaching evaluations, as well as strong letters of reference from referees of high standing.

The Leslie Dan Faculty of Pharmacy offers a range of innovative educational programs including the PharmD program preparing 240 graduates for the full scope of pharmacy practice, the PharmD for Pharmacists program enabling BScPhm trained pharmacists to advance their knowledge and skills, graduate programs (MSc and PhD) and a variety of Continuing Professional Development programs (including the International Pharmacy Graduate Program). Educational programs at the Faculty utilize many delivery methods and platforms ranging from traditional didactic lectures in state of the art classrooms to fully online learning environments.
