CHINA PROGRAM DIRECTOR
Duties: Reporting to the Executive Director of Penn Global, the China Program Director will lead the implementation and oversight of the China Research and Engagement Fund (CREF), a multi-million dollar University initiative to support significant academic work in China. S/he will work closely with faculty and staff across the University on research and engagement initiatives funded by CREF. The China Program Manager will also work closely with Penn's Schools, Centers and Institutes to advance initiatives related to and/or incorporating China in their focus.
This position is key to achieving the University's goals for global engagement as articulated in the Strategic Framework for Global Engagement, in particular the goal of catalyzing transformative ideas that examine the future of China through rigorous, interdisciplinary scholarship. In addition to overseeing the CREF fund, the China Program Director will work with faculty and Schools to generate innovative research agendas and programs to explore the future of China. S/he will also implement strategies to secure sustainable support for these initiatives.
Qualifications: BA/BS required, a Master's Degree or higher strongly preferred plus 5 years to 7 years of work experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience is required. Candidate should have extensive academic and programmatic expertise in/on China, working in an academic, government or other capacity; have undertaken China policy-relevant research with a global focus; have experience living and working in China and be comfortable operating in Chinese; thrive in a multi-faceted, faced-paced environment; have exceptional writing, editing, and public presentation skills across multiple platforms; be thoroughly self motivated; and be a team player, highly collaborative, and entrepreneurial. Please note that this is a two-year, term limited position and that occasional travel to China will be expected.
