College Counselor, Colorado Mountain College, Glenwood Springs
Under the supervision of a designated campus administrator, the College Counselor provides academic advising, career and educational counseling, career/life planning, personal counseling, financial aid advising and registration assistance. In response to changing demographic, technological and evolving community needs counselors provide leadership and support in the development of new and enhanced student success and retention programs. The College Counselor develops and maintains a professional association with mental health providers and establishes referral contacts for students when necessary. This position is full time, year round. This is not a direct care, mental health counseling position.
The Glenwood Center is a community campus that is part of a multi-campus structure. This College Counselor may also have responsibilities at other CMC locations at times.
Applicants must demonstrate a commitment to working in a culturally competent environment and the ability to effectively work with students, employees, and community members having diverse backgrounds. Applicants with conversational Spanish language skills may be given preference.
Master's Degree in education, social work, counseling or related field. Minimum of three years related experience working with a diverse student and adult populations. Experience in higher education advising or counseling preferred. Knowledge of advisement and placement methods; counseling; higher education degree requirements. Some evening and weekend work may be required; some travel required.
Bilingual (English/Spanish) or conversational language abilities may be helpful.
