Position Description

Under direction, plans, organizes, coordinates, and supervises the District's grounds functions; trains, supervises and evaluates the performance of assigned staff; and performs related work as required. Administers, plans, organizes, supervises, and evaluates the grounds programs for the District; trains, supervises, and evaluates the performance of assigned staff; manages employee safety training programs for assigned staff; enforces appropriate safety practices and procedures; and performs related work as required. Note: Incumbents in this position are required to be on-call and may be required to work evening and weekend hours.


• Plans, organizes, coordinates, and supervises the District's grounds department; analyzes needs and recommends improvements which maintain and enhance established standards.
• Responsible for the maintenance of all athletics fields and District grounds areas and equipment.
• Supervises, trains, and evaluates the work of assigned employees.
• Monitors and controls pesticide usage in accordance with State laws and regulations.
• Inspects grounds and enforces appropriate safety practices and procedures.
• Establishes standards for grounds maintenance and preventive maintenance. • Utilizes a computerized work order management system.
• Inspects District grounds and related equipment to determine needed maintenance and repair, reviews work in progress to assure proper completion of work orders and contracts.
• Monitors proper implementation of District water management programs.
• Develops, monitors, and controls expenditures within allocated annual budgets.
• Communicates with vendors regarding the purchase of grounds and supplies and equipment.
• Responds to emergency calls, if needed; inspects site for damage and makes necessary repairs or contacts appropriate employee(s) or contractor(s) to correct the problem.
• Maintains a variety of records pertaining to grounds maintenance.
• Serves as a member of college committees, as assigned.
• Performs related duties as assigned.


• Any combination of education and experience equivalent to:
- An Associate's degree from an accredited college/university
- A minimum of 3 years increasingly responsible experience in grounds maintenance, preferably at a community college, including at least 2 years in a lead or supervisory capacity
• Possession of a valid California Driver's License
• Demonstrated evidence of a sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students and staff

Knowledge of:

• Methods, materials, and equipment used in grounds maintenance
• Health and safety regulations and procedures
• State laws and regulations for pesticide usage and control
• District organization, operations, policies, and objectives
• Principles and practices of supervision and training
• Budget preparation and control
• Proper methods of storing equipment, materials, and supplies
• Oral and written communication skills

Ability to:

• Perform a variety of responsible duties related to the supervision of grounds maintenance services
• Plan, organize, schedule, assign and review grounds work and projects
• Train, supervise, and evaluate assigned personnel
• Analyze situations accurately and adopt an effective course of action

Working hours: Monday - Friday, 7:30am - 4:30pm . Hours may vary according to the assignment.

This is a full-time, 12-month, temporary professional expert position. Continued employment is contingent upon approval of the Chaffey College Governing Board. The monthly salary is $6,420.
