Visiting Assistant Professor in Italian Studies: One–Year Appointment
Position Summary: Gettysburg College invites applications for a one-year visiting faculty position in Italian Studies at the rank of Visiting Assistant Professor (http://www.gettysburg.edu/academics/italian/index.dot) to begin August 2018. The successful candidate would be able to teach all levels of Italian language and Italian culture. We encourage applications from candidates whose teaching or scholarship would contribute to the diversity of the campus community.
Qualifications: The successful candidate should have a commitment to teaching in the liberal arts tradition and show a potential for scholarly engagement. We seek an Italian Studies Ph.D. or ABD with teaching experience at least as a Teaching Assistant and possessing native or near-native fluency in Italian with broad intellectual interests capable of teaching all levels of undergraduate students. The teaching load is 3/3: two language courses in the fall semester (one beginning level, one intermediate) along with an Italian Studies topics course taught in English that reflects the candidate’s expertise; courses for the spring semester are two sections of second-semester beginning Italian and one section of second-semester intermediate Italian. Duties also include oversight of our Italian co-curricular program (Italian Table, film series, excursions, etc.).
