Brief Summary of Work for this Position:
The DCVPA Instructional Technology/Media Specialist creates an environment where collaboration and creative problem solving thrive. The instructional technology facilitator/media specialist at DCVPA will serve as a leader, instructional partner, information specialist, teacher, and program administrator. The successful candidate will encourage the use of instructional technology to engage students and improve teaching while empowering students to be critical thinkers, enthusiastic readers, skillful researchers, and ethical users of information. The successful candidate will create an environment that is conducive to active and participatory learning, resource-based instructional practices, and collaboration with teaching staff. The instructional technology facilitator/media specialist at D.C. Virgo Preparatory Academy will operate as a member of the school’s kinship network, extended family unit. The kinship network will support the growth and development of all students. Staff will actively participate as members of professional learning communities with colleagues and faculty from the Watson College of Education. Teachers and other instructional staff hired to work at D.C. Virgo Preparatory Academy are expected to attend a fully-funded out of state professional development opportunity during the week of June 23-June 27, 2018.
- Master’s degree in instructional technology OR a Master’s degree in school library science;
- Valid North Carolina teaching license or eligible to hold such license;
-Successful candidates will have demonstrated success working with diverse populations and students who have historically struggled academically and socially;
-Demonstrated evidence of professional development.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
• Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing; ability to communicate well with school personnel, students, and parents;
• Demonstrate functional knowledge of computers and all aspects of the Microsoft Office Professional software programs and Google Classroom;
• Ability to work independently, meet deadlines and accomplish specific tasks as requested;
• Demonstrate strong content knowledge;
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships as necessitated by work assignment;
• Ability to maintain a structured classroom environment that promotes and enhances inquiry-based learning;
• Ability to constantly monitor the safety and wellbeing of students;
• Comply with confidentiality requirements in local, state and federal policies and statutes.
-Master’s degrees in BOTH instructional technology and school library science;
-Eligible to hold CDL.
Primary Function of Organizational Unit:
D.C. Virgo Preparatory Academy supports the academic, social, and emotional growth of students in kindergarten through eighth grades. Our model creates kinship networks, extended family units that support student growth and development. Our learning community is personalized, inquiry-based, experiential, and reflective. Students will learn, thrive, and soar within a framework that integrates project-based learning through quests which allow students to move, depending on grade level, from novice to apprentice to artisan levels through their choice of STEM (Science-Technology-Engineering-Mathematics), creative and performing arts, or civic engagement.
