Required Qualifications: (Evidenced by an attached resume)
PhD in Chemical Engineering or related field such as Biochemistry in hand by June 30, 2018. Laboratory experience in Chemical Engineering, Biochemistry or related field.

Preferred Qualifications:
Demonstrated experience in modeling of metabolic networks, stable isotope metabolic flux analysis (stationary and instationary), analytical biochemistry (GC/MS and/or LC/MS), mass spectrometry, systems biology, and skills in programming and using mathematics software (MatLab) will be given preference. Publication record in international journals is also preferred.

Brief Description of Duties:
The position will be located in the biochemical laboratory of Dr. Jorg Schwender at the Brookhaven National laboratory, Upton, New York. The position is part of a multi-investigator consortium, employing integrative genomics, proteomics and quantitative modeling approaches to provide a transformational understanding about accumulation of modified fatty acids in plants. The responsibility of the successful applicant will be to develop and apply experimental and predictive modeling to better evaluate transgenic events and to provide non-intuitive solutions to optimization of the accumulation of modified fatty acids.

  • Development and application of computational models.
  • Plant tissue culture.
  • Chemical analysis (GC/MS, LC/MS). Training will be provided on regulations.
  • Extraction and derivatization. Training will be provided on regulations.
  • Plant culture.
  • Participate in lab meeting presenting research data.
  • Other duties as assigned.

The position will be located in the biochemical laboratory of Dr. Jorg Schwender at the Brookhaven National laboratory, Upton, New York. The Research Foundation of SUNY is a private educational corporation. Employment is subject to the Research Foundation policies and procedures, sponsor guidelines and the availability of funding. FLSA Exempt position, not eligible for the overtime provisions of the FLSA. Minimum salary threshold must be met to maintain FLSA exemption.
