Minimum $51,391 ANNUAL (12 months)

Degree and Area of Specialization:

Ph.D. in Environmental Chemistry, Environmental Toxicology, Organic Chemistry or closely related field.



Minimum number of years and type of relevant work experience:

A minimum of 2 years experience in a laboratory setting demonstrating superior performance and extensive knowledge in environmental analytical research with a focus on organic chemical environmental analysis and method development. Extensive experience using gas chromatography (GC), mass spectroscopy (MS) and liquid chromatography tandem mass spectroscopy (LC-MS/MS) required. Individual with supervisory or leadership experience in mentoring other laboratory personnel preferred. Knowledge of environmental, occupational and public health principles preferred. Individual's years of experience should reflect progressively greater professional expertise and knowledge as it applies to the duties and responsibilities of the position.

Position Summary:

This position is located within the Environmental Health Division (EHD) of the Wisconsin State Laboratory of Hygiene (WSLH). This scientific leader position requires a high level of initiative and independence, and the ability to pursue projects independently. This individual will function as the Organic Chemistry department's technical expert of the WSLH scientific leadership team, and will oversee new method development throughout the Environmental Health and Occupational Health divisions. Individual will working primarily with the Organic Chemistry Section, but will also collaborate with other division departments including forensic toxicology, environmental toxicology and occupational health as applicable. The employee in this leadership position will work closely with and under the general guidance of the EHD Organic Chemistry Manager, and Environmental Health Division Director. The individual will generate ideas for research activities, design methodologies for research projects and carry out research studies with environmental, public, and occupational health statewide partners. The individual will be encouraged to participate in outreach and teaching activities and may supervise research support staff including research specialists, graduate students, and others.
