Manage operations of the UVM Agricultural and Environmental Testing Lab, which offers a wide variety of soil and water laboratory analyses for UVM researchers along with soil and manure testing for Vermont farms, households, and construction projects. Develop and adapt analytical procedures, provide cost estimates, perform data compilation and analysis, and train researchers, students and other technicians. Maintain lab instruments including troubleshooting problems, routine calibration, and demonstrate usage for classes. Oversee safety protocol of lab. Perform billing and sample tracking from receipt through shipping and testing result reporting. Develop grant proposals to maintain and enhance lab operations.
Minimum Qualifications (or equivalent combination of education and experience)
Bachelor's degree in soil science, environmental sciences, or related field and three years of lab experience required. Knowledge of laboratory safety protocols required. Proficiency with statistical analysis and spreadsheet applications is required.
Advanced degree in soils or environmental sciences desirable. Experience with database programming and applications desirable. Basic knowledge of electrical circuitry desirable.
Deadlines for completion of analyses may occasionally require longer days.
