Biomanufacturing Training Associate (BTA)

Primary Function of Organization Unit: The Golden LEAF Biomanufacturing Training and Education Center (BTEC) is a unique, cross-disciplinary instructional center that provides educational and training opportunities to develop skilled professionals for the biomanufacturing industry. BTEC's audience includes NC State University students and professionals already involved in biomanufacturing or related industries. BTEC also provides bioprocess development and analytical services to a wide range of customers from academia and industry.
Essential Job Duties: Biomanufacturing Training Associates (BTAs) at BTEC provide support for lab activities associated with NCSU undergraduate/graduate courses and lab activities associated with BTEC's Professional Development Short Course Program. In addition, BTAs support projects that are part of BTEC's Bioprocess and Analytical Services Program. Essential Job Duties include but are not limited to the following: * Prepare and plan lab activities for assigned courses in upstream or downstream bioprocess operations, or materials management, or analytical testing with limited input from manager. * Independently support instruction of course participants during lab sessions. * Conduct hands-on bioprocess services, analytical services or other internal projects. * Apply operational knowledge of upstream, downstream, materials management and/or analytical testing. * Commission new equipment. * Identify and report equipment issues as well as identify root cause. * Effective written and oral communication skills. * Create and revise cGMP and other types of documentation, as assigned. * Ensure safety in the laboratories. * Follow documented procedures and policies within the BTEC facility and at the University. * Perform any other tasks/responsibilities assigned by supervisor.
Minimum Education/Experience: BS degree in science or engineering (Biology, Biochemistry, Biotechnology, Engineering, or related discipline) Minimum of two years (2 yrs.) of hands-on analytical testing experience in industry **Required degree must be completed prior to start date
Department Required Skills: * Good interpersonal skills, including the ability to work with other operations staff and faculty at BTEC. * Good problem solving and decision making skills. * Proficiency with word processing and spreadsheet software. * Ability to coordinate preparation of lab activities necessary for daily operation and student instruction. * Knowledge of principles of aseptic technique and the ability to transfer that knowledge to students and other BTAs. * Ability to execute process steps using standard documentation (SOPs, protocols, etc.) and follow established documentation practices. * Knowledge of good documentation practices. * Effective written and oral communication. * Operational knowledge of upstream biomanufacturing, downstream biomanufacturing, analytical testing and/or materials management equipment and the ability to transfer that knowledge to students. * Ability to learn the operation of new bioprocessing, analytical and/or materials management equipment and to run new processes. * Knowledge of standard laboratory safety and biosafety practices. * Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education: * Knowledge of theory as well as hands-on development and validation of biopharmaceutical techniques such as ELISA, SDS-PAGE, HPLC, GC, CE, UV-vis absorbance, fluorescence, sequencing, mass spectrometry, qPCR, and microbial testing * Experience in planning, executing and documenting daily activities. * Experience in creating, revising, and maintaining documents including standard operating procedures, records, forms, protocols and other relevant documentation * Experience in teaching or training * Analytical development or research experience in biomanufacturing * Experience with analysis of proteins, vaccines and/or nucleic acids * Good knowledge of cGMP, USP and ICH documents * Creative problem solver * Proficiency with MS Word, MS Excel, and PowerPoint.
