This position will be responsible for the daily decision making for planning and executing approximately $3-$5 million worth of landscape construction and maintenance services annually; Providing leadership and coordination of Landscape Services supervisors and crews on landscape maintenance, beautification, Capital Projects, snow removal and training. Responsible for ordering materials and coaching crews on landscape industry horticultural methods; hold weekly meetings updating Landscape Services staff on current project work requirements; determining vendors through MSU bidding procedures, estimating projects for owner provided work, inspecting construction sites, and processing invoices; track budgets of capital projects, project requests and service requests; hold walkthroughs to coordinate entire campus landscape renovation every three years; maintaining electronic and paper records on materials and equipment used by IPF employees, faculty conducting research projects, and contractors providing service for MSU; responsible for coordinating all plantings on campus; coordinate all landscape and maintenance efforts with campus landscape architects; research and recommend the purchase of new and improved tools, equipment, and methods for landscape construction, irrigation and maintenance; conduct equipment and tool safety training to ensure the safety of staff, customers and visitors; Manage and coordinate all training and staffing of the Campus Snow Plan;

Knowledge normally acquired in the first two or three years of college, technical or vocational school with an Associates degree in Landscape construction, horticulture, or landscape architecture; one to three years of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in performing landscape planting layouts, construction drawing reviews, landscape cost estimating, irrigation planning and installation, and landscape material planning, managing commercial snow removal operations; computer experience relating to the specific department; experience with and knowledge of landscape operating equipment (i.e. backhoe, bull dozer, articulated loader, tree spade, hydro seeding equipment, skid steer, and final grading equipment) to provide accurate job estimates and work procedures/processes; or an equivalent combination of education and experience; possession of a Michigan operators license; must drive a University vehicle to perform job duties of this classification; Attainment of MDOT Soil Erosion and Sediment Control license within six months of hire date; Attainment of the N.A.L.P. Landscape Industry Certified Technician-Exterior certification within one year of employment.Desired Qualifications
Five years experience as a foreman or supervisor of a landscape construction crew; expert knowledge of Michigan State University landscape construction processes and procedures: successful track record leading landscape construction and irrigation crews; five years of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience operating a backhoe, bull dozer, articulated loader, tree spade, hydro seeding equipment, skid steer, and final grading equipment; three years of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience training staff and conducting daily work plans; five years of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience managing commercial snow removal operations; thorough understanding of Microsoft Office Outlook, Excel, FAMIS, AutoCAD, and Discoverer; five years of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience performing landscape planting layouts, construction drawing reviews, landscape cost estimating, irrigation planning and installation, and landscape material planning;
