Position Summary

Provides confidential administrative support to the Office of Institutional Equity director and university equity investigators; monitors and reports departmental budgetary matters; drafts and types documents, reports, and correspondence, gathers, screens, and relays sensitive information and data; answers office phones and directs individuals to investigators or other appropriate campus offices; arranges meetings; schedules travel; maintains calendars; database creation and maintenance, handles file creation; filing, and file maintenance; manages mail; works under deadlines with little or no supervision.  Duties associated with this position involve working on a video display terminal 75 percent of the time.

Unit Specific Education/Experience/Skills

Knowledge normally acquired through a high school education; five to eight years of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in maintaining account ledgers, composing documents and correspondence, proofreading, scheduling, record maintenance, and word processing and database software, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Desired Qualifications

Experience working with highly confidential matters; understanding of MSU’s policies and procedures; experience with account maintenance; experience in coordinating and making travel arrangements, transcription skills, familiarity of Advocate software; knowledge of Excel; ability to maintain confidentiality; sensitivity towards and ability to communicate respectfully with individuals from diverse backgrounds and experiences; ability to work well under pressure and within time constraints; ability to communicate effectively with individuals who may be highly emotional or under great stress; ability to problem-solve and think creatively; associate’s degree.
