The Virginia Institute of Development in Adulthood (VIDA) is engaged in ongoing studies examining the links between social development in adolescence and both short- and long-term physical and mental health outcomes.
The Research Associate will work under the direction of Joseph Allen in coding, analyzing and publishing data from an ongoing NIH-funded study of the long-term effects of adolescent social relationship qualities. Duties include writing up results of the study for publication and presentation at national conferences (both as a first author and in a collaborative role), statistical analysis, supervision of coding teams, and mentoring of graduate and undergraduate students. The Research Associate will also contribute to dissemination of intervention projects based upon this work.
A Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology with a focus on adolescent social development is required by start date. Experience applying interaction-based video coding systems, longitudinal data analysis, and a track record demonstrating ability to publish research results in top-tier journals. Knowledge of links between social relationships and longer-term health outcomes is desirable. This is a one-year appointment; however appointments may be renewed for additional one-year increments up to three years, contingent upon available funding and satisfactory performance.
