Job Summary

The Assistant Instructor-Xplore Academy provides instructional support to the Young Womens and Young Mens Xplore program. The Xplore program provides an opportunity for individuals 16-18 years of age to experience various skills related to EMS and Fire Science. This person will be responsible for reviewing desired outcomes, demonstrating skills and then provide oversight and direction to the students as they practice the skills. The individual working in this position will need to be familiar with industry standards in regard to best practices and safety precautions.

The Xplore Academy is for a two-week period, July 16 through July 26, 2018.


Functional Attributes of Job Duty

Lifting equipment up to 50 lbs
Dragging manikins up to 180 lbs
Bending up to 15 times a day to pick up equip
Crawling through a rescue maze to demonstrate techniques 1 hour a day
Standing 4-5 hours a day
Walking 2-3 hours a day
Climbing stairs in the burn tower
Climbing ladders, working on roofs 4 hrs a day
Reach for equipment up to 20 lbs either arm
Grasp objects with either hand
Fine manipulations with either hand


Minimum Qualifications

1 year experience in EMS or Fire Service
Certification as either an EMT or Firefighter I
Other certifications specific to the topic being taught.


Preferred Qualifications

AAS Degree in a related field

Daily 8 am to 5 pm
