Primary Function of Organization Unit: North Carolina Cooperative Extension (NCCE) gives our residents easy access to the resources and expertise of NC State University and NC A&T State University. Through educational programs, publications, and events, NCCE field faculty deliver unbiased, research-based information to North Carolina residents. Jacksonville is Onslow County's largest city and seat of government and has a current population of approximately 178,000. US Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune occupies 246 square miles, nearly a third of Onslow County's land area. The military presence is the most important economic engine in the County, impacting virtually its entire economic structure. Also, 27% of the county's population are youth under the age of 18. Essential Job Duties: The 4-H Extension Agent is a member of the faculty of North Carolina State University and a professional educator. The individual in the position will provide leadership for the total 4-H program and will be responsible for planning, implementing and evaluating programs. Duties include developing and maintaining 4-H clubs, special interest programs, summer camping, and school enrichment programs. Responsibilities will include supervision and recruitment of youth and adult volunteer leaders, evaluating and reporting impacts of program efforts, and cooperating with colleagues and county leaders in performing assigned duties. The applicant must be self-directed and possess a strong work ethic with skills in leadership, communication, grant writing, public relations, planning, implementation, and evaluation. The applicant must also be willing to work closely with county advisors and partners to promote both the 4-H Youth program and the overall County Extension Program.
Department Required Skills: Must have a Bachelor's degree in youth or child development or related field with the expectation that a Master's degree will be pursued from an accredited institution. Strong oral and written communication skills. Self-directed and self-motivated with the ability to multi-task and set priorities. Possess strong work ethic with skills in leadership, communications, networking, budgeting, and public relations. Understanding of and ability to conduct community needs assessment to determine program priorities. Ability to involve volunteers in program delivery. Strong computer and technical competencies, including experience and knowledge in mass media, marketing and presentations. Program marketing skills. Ability to work and interact with a diverse population. Excellent time and resource management skills. Ability to plan, organize, and work well with people. Ability to network with community partners and agencies and maintain the working relationships. Ability to work as both a leader and a team player.
Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education: A Master's degree is preferred. Some 4-H knowledge or experience is preferred. Livestock experience desired.
Necessary Licenses and Certifications: A valid driver's license and reliable personal transportation must be maintained.
