The Faculty of Applied Science and Engineering is searching for a faculty member in the field of Leadership Education in Engineering to be appointed to the Institute for Leadership Education in Engineering (ILead). The appointment will be for a five year Contractually Limited Term Appointment (CLTA) at the rank of Associate Professor or Professor commencing after July 1, 2018. The incumbent will also be appointed Director, Institute for Leadership Education in Engineering (ILead) to serve concurrently.
The Faculty welcomes applications from individuals with demonstrated excellence in research and/or creative professional work and excellence in leadership and management in business, government, universities or non-profits, preferably in an engineering context. A minimum of ten years of experience in executive, management or senior leadership roles is required. Applicants must provide demonstrated evidence of a strong ability to teach in an engineering context and have a PhD in engineering, business, organizational behavior, education or a related field or an equivalent combination of experience and education, such as a graduate degree in one of the fields above and an outstanding portfolio of professional work and record of excellence in professional activity. Applicants holding a degree in engineering are preferred. Eligibility to register as a Professional Engineer in Ontario would be an asset.
Through active engagement in the Community of Practice on Engineering Leadership and the National Initiative on Capacity Building and Knowledge Creation for Engineering Leadership (NICKEL), the successful candidate will be heavily engaged in research and scholarship in relation to new and effective ways to build leadership capacity in an engineering context and in knowledge creation to advance professional practice. At the same time, the successful candidate will be expected to teach courses in engineering leadership at the undergraduate and graduate level and support the development of engineering leadership in the workplace and in the classroom. In addition to their engagement in scholarship and teaching, the successful candidate will take a leadership role within ILead, as Director, with responsibilities including, but not limited to, developing and communicating ILead's values, vision, mission, culture and strategic plan; and the development of strategic relationships with partners within and beyond the University.
The ideal candidate will have an established reputation for excellence in scholarship or professional achievement. This may be demonstrated either by i. a record of sustained contributions and publications in top-ranked and field-relevant journals and presentations at significant conferences or ii. by a strong record of professional innovation, exemplary professional practice, or significant contributions to or leadership in the development of professional practice. In either case, strong endorsements by referees of high standing must speak to their achievement. The successful candidate will be expected to maintain an innovative, competitive and independently funded research program and/or a significant and impactful program of creative professional activity within the field. Additionally, the successful candidate must demonstrate teaching excellence at both the undergraduate and graduate program levels. Evidence of excellence in teaching will be demonstrated through a teaching dossier that provides evidence of teaching accomplishments, the statement of teaching philosophy, and experience leading successful workshops or seminars, mentorship, or excellent conference presentations or posters.
Rank and salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
