About the Unit
Named in honor of Milton Friedman and Gary Becker, the Becker Friedman Institute (BFI) sustains the rigorous scholarship that made their work, and that of the many scholars who came before and after them at the University of Chicago, so influential and enduring. BFI cultivates the next generation of economists and continues the famously vibrant UChicago culture of discussion and debate. By supporting faculty research programs, BFI links economists in the Department of Economics, the Booth School of Business, and the Harris School with those in the Law and Medical schools. Further, BFI fosters collaboration between UChicago faculty and leading economists from around the world, influencing public policy and the broader public debate surrounding key economic and social issues.
