Organizational Description:

The office of Services for Students with Disabilities provides academic accommodations to students with disabilities. It is a resource for students to achieve academic, cultural, and social excellence.

Overview:

Under the general direction of the Director of Services for Students with Disabilities, this position provides coordination and oversight of legally mandated academic accommodations of the Office of Services for Students with Disabilities (SSD) for students with disabilities, both on campus and at distance learning sites.

Such services and activities may include providing information and guidance to students; evaluating student needs and authorizing services; coordinating and administering, events, and projects; advocating the needs of students and providing support and assistance to students facing a variety of personal as well as institutional problems, questions and challenges.

It also includes oversight of accommodations for standardized tests offered on the campus. As the position is responsible for the handling and administration of classroom examinations with integrity and confidentiality on a daily basis, it requires the incumbent to function at a high level of reliability, judgment and discretion. It requires direct communication with the student with disabilities and faculty to provide accommodations. In addition, the Testing Accommodations Specialist will support the Lead Interpreter and Communications Coordinator for the provision of interpreting and real time captioning services for students and other campus programs by request.

Position Summary:

	
  • Develop, coordinate and administer testing accommodation services for classroom and standardized examinations on campus and at distance learning sites
  • 	
  • Resolve problems with students and address issues regarding testing accommodations
  • 	
  • Provide testing accommodations orientations to new SSD students
  • 	
  • Advocate the needs of the students to faculty on campus
  • 	
  • Develop and maintain collaborative working relationships with the Fresno State satellite campus in Visalia for the provision of testing accommodations
  • 	
  • Develop and maintain collaborative relationships with faculty and academic departments to ensure efficient provisions of authorized testing accommodations under secure testing conditions
  • 	
  • Refine, interpret and apply SSD policies and procedures for the provision of testing accommodations
  • 	
  • Maintain accurate testing data through the SSD database
  • 	
  • Provide lead support and train student assistants and other test proctors for the provision of testing accommodations and services on campus and at distance learning sites
  • 	
  • Perform other duties as assigned
  • Occasional job functions:

    	
  • Participate in campus and community informational events to disseminate information about SSD services
  • 	
  • Compile statistics and write annual report of testing accommodation services
  • 	
  • Provide backup support in the absence of the Lead Interpreter and Communications Coordinator
  • 	
  • Process, provide follow-up and maintain requests for interpreter/RTC accommodations
  • 	
  • Keep detailed records of interpreter/RTC providing services in SSD database
  • Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

    	Equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university in one of the behavioral sciences, public or business administration or a job-related field	
      		Additional specialized experience during which the applicant has acquired and successfully applied the knowledge and abilities shown above may be substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis	
    		Equivalent of two years of professional experience in one of the student services program areas or in a related field	
      		A master's degree in a job-related field may be substituted for one year of the professional experience

    	Analyze complex situations, determine appropriate courses of action and appropriately apply policies in pressured situations	Analyze and determine most efficient methods of delivering academic testing accommodation services to students	Learn, interpret, apply and clearly communicate disability related procedures, policies, information, ideas and instructions to students	Coordinate large volume of academic test accommodations with accuracy, efficiency and confidentiality	Organize and plan for efficient handling of work and projects that involve multiple priorities	Relate skillfully and respectfully to diverse students with varying disabilities, faculty and staff	Productively solve conflicts due to misunderstandings	Maintain accurate, confidential student files	Plan and maintain student assistant budget	Train others on new skills and procedures and provide lead work direction
