EOP Counselor (Student Services Professional III), EOP/Ethnic Affairs
San Diego State University is seeking applicants with demonstrated experience and/or commitment to teaching and working effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds and members of historically underrepresented groups.

This is a full-time (1.0 time-base), benefits eligible, permanent (probationary) position. This position is designated exempt under FLSA and is not eligible for overtime compensation. Standard SDSU work hours are Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., but may vary based on operational needs.
Under the direction of the Associate Director of EOP/Ethnic Affairs, the EOP Counselor is responsible for providing counseling and academic advising for EOP students regarding course selection, evaluation, adjustment from high school and/or community college, financial aid referrals, personal counseling related to self-awareness, personal growth, peer relationships, family expectations/problems, career investigation, academic probation and residential life.
The EOP Counselor also is responsible for coordination of student service areas, events, and programs (e.g. EOP graduation, Summer Bridge, etc.)
Compensation and Benefits
Starting salary upon appointment not expected to exceed $4,421 per month. CSU Classification Salary Range: $4,421 - $6,299 per month. Salary placement is determined by the education, experience, and qualifications the candidate brings to the position, internal equity, and the hiring department's fiscal resources.

Equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university in a related field, including or supplemented by upper division or graduate coursework in counseling techniques, interviewing, and conflict resolution where such are job-related.
Possession of this knowledge and abilities is typically demonstrated through the equivalent of three years of progressively responsible professional student services work experience. One year in the program area to which assigned may be preferred but is not required.
A master’s degree in Counseling, Clinical Psychology, Social Work, or a directly related field may be substituted for one year of experience. A doctorate degree and the appropriate internship or clinical training in counseling or guidance may be substituted for the three years of experience for positions with a major responsibility for professional career or personal counseling.
Preferred Qualifications and Specialized Skills
Minimum of one year experience working with students from low income, traditionally underserved, and traditionally disadvantaged backgrounds. Minimum of one year experience with student outreach efforts in school and community settings.
Minimum of one year experience developing, organizing, planning, and implementing university transitional programs.
Minimum of one year experience utilizing individual counseling techniques. Minimum of two years of experience analyzing complex situations accurately and adopting effective courses of action.
Minimum of one year experience advising students individually and in groups on complex student-related matters.
Master’s degree in Counseling, College Student Development, Higher Education, or a directly related field.
Experience developing, planning, and implementing workshops or other programming aimed at supporting students, including undocumented students and former foster youth.
Experience working with diverse student populations.
Knowledge of student services programs outside the program to which assigned.
