The Area Manager is a 12-month, full time professional who provides developmental leadership for the graduate and undergraduate student staff in an area of campus housing approximately 1500 students and is supervised by the Associate Director for Housing and Residence Life. The campus is served by two Area Managers.
The campus has a mix of Apartment-style, Suite, and Semi-Suite as well as traditional double-corridor residence halls and houses a mix of student classifications. The Area Manager manages daily operations through a student development lens to support the UWG mission – The University of West Georgia aspires to be the best comprehensive university in America – sought after as the best place to work, learn, and succeed! Major duties and responsibilities are: Supervise and evaluate 3-5 professional Residence Life Coordinators, 1 Residential Support Coordinator who has financial aid and assignments support, indirectly 4-5 graduate resident directors and Resident Assistants for their area and ~5 24/7 Front Desk locations. Manage 2-4 special projects or committees each semester such as staff training, manual development, advising, or staff selection. Serve as the primary contact for parents of residents in the assigned area. Provide leadership for a Residential Curriculum programming model including student involvement, programming, living-learning communities, and academic support initiatives. Provide leadership for duty structures and crisis and conflict response in the assigned area. Serve in a campus-wide on-call rotation. Manage the conduct process for the assigned area and; serve as a disciplinary officer. Liaison to area maintenance and custodial staff. Oversee administrative tasks, programming budgets, and facilities processes in the area. Instruct 2-credit hour graded RA class each fall semester, and spring, if needed. Assist as requested with major department events and functions; some evening and weekend work is required. Assist with summer conference, summer school, special projects, and/or orientation as assigned each summer. UWG utilizes the following software including Banner, SSC, Maxient, StarRez, Lenel, Avigilon, Security Asset Management and WASP to complete job functions. To best aid the department in achieving these goals, the Area Manager must employ a student centered approach, the ability to identify and address student needs, facilities operations knowledge, a desire to collaborate, strategic problem solving ability, sound judgment, administrative management skills, and a timely response to problems that arise. Area Managers play a key role in RA staff selection, training, development, and evaluation. The Area Manager is responsible for an area of assignment with 1500 residents and directs social and educational programming initiatives, facilitates student mentorship and leadership development, adjudicates student conduct cases, and completes other duties as assigned by supervisory staff members, or that arise as part of meeting the needs of the students, community, or University.
Master’s degree and proven experience supervising Graduate and Student para-professional staff. Proven experience in supervision.
Master’s degree in College Student Personnel or related field and 2 years of full-time, post-masters work experience in Housing/Residence Life. Knowledge of student development theory; organization of human relation skills; knowledge in laws governing housing accommodations including, but not limited to, FERPA, ADA, Title IX, etc.; proficient in the use of data management applications; excellent written and oral expression abilities; strong deductive and inductive reasoning abilities; demonstrated technical literacy including database management skills, ability to diplomatically handle difficult or urgent matters in a confident and proficient manner; ability to foster and promote an integrated team approach; successful completion of background investigation prior to employment.
Salary $45,540 minimum - $58,632 midpoint
Physical Requirements/Working Conditions:
Must be able to travel and pick up boxes weighing in excess of 20 pounds
