QUALIFICATIONS:

POSITION: An 80%, nine-month professional academic staff position is available in The Academic Skills Center beginning August 20, 2018. The official title for this assignment is Student Services Coordinator. This is a renewable assignment, contingent on performance and funding. The salary will be commensurate with experience and qualifications. The Student Services Coordinator will be responsible for managing content-based tutor programs and supervising tutors, managing the Supplemental Instruction program, and supervising the day-to-day operations of SI Leaders. This position is also responsible for teaching GEN 110-Stategies for Academic Success for first semester students and GEN 201 Students Success Seminar for students on probation after suspension. This position reports to the director, Academic Skills Center.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: A master’s degree from a regionally accredited institution is required. Also required are teaching experience; demonstrated ability to work with diverse populations; excellent written and oral communication skills.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Experience at the college level teaching and demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion.

DUTIES:
  1. Teach GEN 110/ FYO
  • Teach two courses each fall for first-year students that assist in their transition to college.
  • Develop first-year, transitional curriculum for diverse learners and populations.
  • Assess students’ reading/study, and/or writing skills and make appropriate referrals.
  • Connect students to resources and activities on campus.
  • Meet individually with each student to assess academic progress and inquire about any transition concerns.
  • Supervise class mentors.
  1. Teach GEN 201 for students in poor academic standing
  • Teach one or two courses each semester for students on probation after suspension.
  • Meet individually with students to identify factors leading to poor academic standing.
  • Assess students’ reading/study, and/or writing skills, track academic progress, and assist students in developing a personalized plan for getting back in good academic standing.
  1. Coordinate Supplemental Instruction (SI)
  • Manage the SI program.
  • Recruit, hire, train, and supervise 8-10 SI leaders and 1-3 SI mentors.
  • Work with colleagues and mentors to develop initial and on-going SI training.
  1. Supervise Tutoring
  • Recruit, hire, train, and supervise 15-25 tutors for biology and chemistry courses.
  • Develop resources for tutors including EDI concepts.
  1. Student Support
  • Provide general academic counseling.
  • Provide continued support for former students, including making referrals and providing letters of recommendation.
  1. Participate in the planning, development, and strengthening of the ASC’s programs and services.
  2. Assist in program evaluation, provide data to ASC Director for reporting requirements and recommend future directions for student development.
  3. Contribute to unit, university, and community activities, as appropriate, and continue to expand knowledge and skills through professional growth and development.
  4. Perform other duties as assigned.
