Job Summary:
This is an advanced level position providing specialized technical support to the campus veterinary care program. The position requires the incumbent to independently anticipate, initiate and follow through with technical responsibilities; and prioritize workflow needs. They must also be able to act responsibly and maturely in stressful situations. It also requires the ability to lift a minimum of 50 lbs. independently, and the physical and manual dexterity to perform specialized technical tasks. Duties include assisting veterinarians in restraint, examination and treatment of sick and injured animals, performing basic clinical and postmortem diagnostic laboratory procedures, performing technical duties associated with preventive medicine and environmental enrichment programs, initiating and maintaining animal medical records, assisting in the instruction and orientation of animal care employees, research staff and students, maintaining supplies, providing technical assistance for investigators and developing knowledge and responsibility in area of specialization to include maintenance of special equipment, instructing others in use and care, assisting clinician, researchers and students in procedures.
This is a developmental to advanced level position.
This position functions under general supervision.
This position requires weekend and holiday work.
Requirements:
Certification as Wisconsin Veterinary Technician or Eligibility to Obtain
Schedule Comment:
7:45 am - 4:30 pm with 45-minute lunch break
