IT Shared Services (ITSS) is part of the Finance Division of The University of North Texas System. The mission of ITSS is simple: to be the best at delivering customer-aligned IT solutions and services. Our services are provided to all member institutions using an IT shared services governance model.

IT Shared Services provides the primary technology used by all campuses to support their operations. These include: shared resources of data centers, computing hardware, software applications, network and voice communications, collaboration and productivity capabilities, central web services, risk management, and security and compliance services. Job Description
The ITSS-Telecom Services Department at the University of North Texas System is seeking to hire a Telecommunications Technician II to join our team. This position performs advanced-level telecommunications work. Work involves diagnosing and resolving voice and/or data telecommunications problems and installing and operating telecommunications components. Works under minimal supervision with latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgment. Supports all telephone system billing, call detail records, automated call distribution systems, unified communications, voice mail hardware and software inventory.

Responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to:

* Provide communications infrastructure planning, technical design and engineering assistance for UNT System and Components
* Assist with contractor bid specifications and quotations
* Supervise contractors and service providers
* Safely perform communications infrastructure installations, testing and maintenance of ironwork, cabling and telecommunications related services
* Perform moves, adds and changes
* Diagnose, repair and test failing or damaged telecommunications equipment and services
* Complete assigned work orders
* Troubleshoot outages and problems
* Coach Telecommunications Technicians and student workers
* Coordinate work assignments for all Technicians and student workers
* Utilize computer equipment and applications to report work

Minimum Qualifications
The successful candidate will possess the following required qualifications:

Associates degree in related field and three years communications and/or networking experience; or any equivalent combination of education, training and experience which provides the following knowledge, skills, and abilities:

* Advanced knowledge of principles of computing and communications networks.
* Knowledge of IT hardware and software.
* Strong oral and written communications skills.
* Supervisory skills and abilities.
* Operate a computer keyboard and to install communications hardware.
* Manage and Support billing processes, ACD - automated call distribution systems, and Unified Communications including voice mail.
* Assimilate, retain, and utilize technical information.
* Analyze varied courses of action and participate in strategic planning.
* Work with independence and initiative.
* Establish and maintain effective working relationships.
* Function responsibly during emergency problem solving situations.
* Knowledge of safety and security precautions:
* Capability to lift and move items averaging about 60 pounds
* Ability to ascend and descend ladders with tools, cables, equipment, etc.
* Work in confined areas crawlspace, ceilings, etc.
* Work in diverse environmental conditions ? hot and cold temperatures inside and outside facilities
* Operate vehicles, power tools, and equipment in a safe manner
* Wear safety gear as needed ? steel toe shoes, vests, and protective eye covering
* Attend safety courses as offered
