Job Description Summary:
The George Washington University Cancer Center is seeking a Senior Cell Therapy Specialist.
The Senior Cell Therapy Specialist will perform complex clinical laboratory procedures that require a high degree of independence and decision making for patients undergoing Hematopoietic Progenitor Cells transplantation. Some of the procedures will be performed in a Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) facility. The work will be performed in compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations for Hematopoietic Progenitor Cells processing laboratories as part of Good Tissue Practices and cGMP regulations.
The Senior Cell Therapy Specialist will support the Laboratory Director in creating, revising, and reviewing Standard Operating Procedures relating to the Stem Cell Transplantation and Cell Therapy laboratories activity. They will train new Cell Therapy Specialist staff on procedures related to hematopoietic progenitor cell processing and GMP related work. They will collaboratively plan and independently conduct and analyze experiments aimed at the development of new cellular therapy applications. The studies will involve in vitro cellular and molecular biology work, but not limited to cloning, PCR/Q-PCR or cell cultures.
Operates commonly utilized processing equipment (TerumoBCT Spectra Optia and COBE 2291 Cell Processor, Biosafe Sepax system, Miltenyi CliniMACS and CliniMACS Prodigy).
Assists in acquisition data, audits, deviation investigations and CAPAs.
Assists in clinical and research protocol implementation.
Liaises with the Clinical BMT Unit regarding transplant workflow.
Performs scheduled quality assurance / quality control.
Maintains and prepares equipment / environment for use.
Maintains current inventory of supplies.
Assists on change controls, safety inspections.
Performs other work related duties as assigned. The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that are logically related to the position.
Ability to work long hours as required.Minimum Qualifications:
Qualified candidates will hold a BA/BS in a related discipline plus 5 years of relevant professional experience. Degree must be conferred by the start date of the position.Additional Required Licenses/Certifications/Posting Specific Minimum Qualifications: Preferred Qualifications:
Minimum of three years of experience in Clinical Cell Processing and work in a clean room environment.
Familiar with Universal precautions for handling human derived materials in BSL-2 containment areas.
Experience with Molecular Biology techniques a must.
Prior experience in the field of Cell and Gene Therapy is desired.
Ability to follow existing protocols and methods and to develop new ones
Excellent skills in Microsoft Work, Excel, and data analysis.
Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
Self-motivated, able to think critically, and excellent problem solving skills.
