Job Description Summary:

This position is a permanent part-time paraprofessional working as a member of the Information and Instructional Services Staff. The Library Coordinator provides front-line, core information services to faculty, staff, and students of the School of Medicine and Health Sciences (SMHS), School of Nursing (SON), Milken School of Public Health (GWSPH), GW Hospital, and Medical Faculty Associates (MFA). This includes responding to inquiries via phone, in person, and email or instant messages at the reference desk from in the evening hours Monday through Thursday and Saturday afternoon (specific hours are listed above). This position is a patron-facing position that staffs the Library's Reference Desk during all hours listed above.

Responsibilities Include:

Responds to reference/research requests received in-person, by phone, and by instant messenger chat.

Assists patrons in connecting to electronic databases, the library catalog and home page, email accounts, and other internet and University resources.

Helps patrons locate Reserve materials, search library catalog, and utilize other electronic and print resources necessary for research.

Offers basic instruction in the use of the library catalog, electronic databases, such as PubMed, Scopus, and CINAHL, and apps.

Assists patrons (master's and doctoral level students, residents, and faculty) in selecting research topics for course requirements.

Assists patrons in analyzing research assignments or case-based scenarios to determine appropriate information resources and databases.

Utilizes in-house systems to respond to patron inquiries related to: Reserves, book and journal holdings, on-order items, and other Collection questions.

Assists patrons with requesting materials not owned by the Himmelfarb Library.

Troubleshoots computer and software problems experienced by students, staff, and faculty.

Maintains statistics on evening reference services.

Assists the evening Circulation Desk staff in responding to patron inquiries.

Assists in the maintenance of the reference area and reference collection.

This position performs other duties as assigned. The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that are logically related to the position.

Minimum Qualifications:

Qualified candidates will hold a high school diploma/GED plus 3 years of relevant professional experience, or, a Bachelor's degree or higher in a relevant area of study. Degree must be conferred by the start date of the position. Degree requirements may be substituted with an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

Additional Required Licenses/Certifications/Posting Specific Minimum Qualifications: Preferred Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree in the sciences or a research intensive field preferred.

Library experience including specialized reference work preferred.

Experience in library, instructional, or health-related science field is highly desirable.

Excellent communication skills.
