The Department of Biochemistry & Molecular Genetics at the University of Virginia invites applicants to apply for the position of Research Associate, Computational Biologist. Duties include: analysis and interpretation of high-throughput genomic data from whole-genome sequencing, ChIP-seq, RNA-seq and microarray experiments.
The selected candidate will have additional responsibilities of meeting weekly with the Principal Investigator to discuss experimental results, conduct literature searches, present results in weekly lab meetings and at conferences as well as in interdepartmental seminars.
The candidate must work independently and ethically, document all research data appropriately, assist graduate students in the lab, apply for independent funding where applicable, and publish data in qualified journals. The completion of a Ph.D. and/or M.D. degree in Biochemistry or a related field is required by the appointment start date. Experience with bioinformatics, computational biology and/or computer science is required. Familiarity with one or more programming languages is preferred.
