Department Overview
UNT-International is the university division charged with leading all aspects of UNT's international outreach, programming, study abroad, recruiting, admissions, ESL instruction, sponsored students programs, and student and scholar services. UNT-International works cooperatively with the colleges, schools, and academic departments to bring the world to the UNT campus and bring UNT to a global audience.

UNT-International serves approximately 2,300 international students and hundreds of foreign scholars and researchers from more than 125 countries and many more domestic UNT faculty and staff studying or conducting research abroad. The organization employs more than 30 staff and instructors and is led by the Vice Provost and Dean of International Affairs.

Job Description
International Student & Scholar Services within UNT-International at the University of North Texas is seeking to hire an Assistant Director to join our team.

This position is a member of the professional staff in the International Student and Scholar Services Office ensuring compliance with all aspects of the Student and Exchange Visitor Information System (SEVIS), as required by federal law. Specifically, this position is responsible for assisting with and managing immigration services for UNT Denton, UNT Dallas, and UNT System international students, scholars, faculty, and staff requiring knowledge of various immigrant and non-immigrant visa types.

The Assistant Director must be able to exercise good judgement and decision making. Additionally, this person must be able to be certified with the federal government as a Designated School Official for the F visa program and an Alternate Responsible Officer for the J visa program.

Responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to:

* Ensuring compliance with all federal regulations regarding UNT's international student and scholar program.
* Directing the F-1 student advising team, issuing immigration documents, and assisting with timely and accurate SEVIS reporting.
* Provide accurate advising and services for UNT-sponsored employees on H-1B, TN, O, & E visa types and acts as a campus liaison for foreign nationals working with outside counsel for immigrant PR petitions. This position requires advanced expertise in F, J, H, TN, O, and E immigration statuses.
* Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications
The successful candidate will possess a Bachelor's Degree in related field and three years of professional related experience; or any equivalent combination of education, training and experience. The following knowledge, skills, and abilities are required:

* Advanced expertise in F, J, H, TN, O, and E immigration statuses.
Knowledge and ability to effectively communicate complex legal concepts across cultures and language groups as well as discussing personal concerns in a professional manner.
* Must meet federal requirements to serve as a Designated School Official (DSO) and Alternate Responsible Officer (ARO).
* Experience with SEVIS and a vendor software.
* Strong written and verbal communication skills.
* Working knowledge of business practices and procedures, ability to organize, detail oriented; capacity to multi-task; good time management skills.
* Ability to work well under stress.
* Ability to work in an open office area with much activity.
* Foreign language beneficial.
* Experience dealing with the agencies in the US Department of Homeland Security and the US Department of State.
