Position Description

The Department of French, Francophone, and Italian Studies at the College of Charleston invites applications for a tenure-track position as an Assistant Professor. The position includes the coordination of beginning and intermediate language courses, and may include the supervision of two graduate teaching assistants beginning August 2018. The successful candidate will teach introductory and intermediate French language courses, as well as upper-level courses in the area of specialization. He or she will perform the coordination and supervision duties, assist with program assessment, and contribute to departmental and university service. The course load is three classes per semester (3 fall, 3 spring).

A Ph.D. in French is required before the start date of mid-August as well as a professional level of proficiency in both French and English. Preference will be given to candidates with documented successful college-level teaching experience, experience teaching in the area of specialization, experience in coordination, curriculum development, program articulation, assessment, or other areas of program development. Candidates must have a commitment to teaching at the undergraduate level and present a strong research agenda. The area of specialization is open. Teaching experience is required in lower-level French language classes.
