Job description

The College of Agriculture, Food and Environment is seeking an experienced philanthropy professional with a passion for agriculture. The Director of Philanthropy for major gifts at the University of Kentucky's College of Agriculture, Food and Environment will identify, cultivate, solicit and steward a portfolio of major gift individual prospects/donors that could include a select number of corporate/association partners-using a donor-centered philosophy to ensure a diverse and sustainable revenue stream to support the College's strategic land-grant mission. He/she also will create and effectively manage relationships with Department Chairs and their departments to develop and strengthen relationships with these key stakeholders.

Primarily days, may include evenings and/or weekends


Experience in major gift philanthropy, with an experience in major giving from individual donors. A self-managed working style that includes the ability to devise strategies, engage prospective donors and advance relationships to solicit a major gifts of $25,000 or more.
Excellent communication skills, written and oral to articulate the value of the Colleges' mission to prospective donors and convey how their gifts would make a difference.
Proven ability to solicit and close gifts on the $25,000+ level, or equivalent experience in related field.
Should have a high degree of computer literacy and management information skills.
Interest in the College mission a plus. Monthly domestic travel required.

Does this position have supervisory responsibilities?

Preferred Education/Experience

Bachelor's degree, plus 8 years' experience in philanthropy, with experience in major giving from individual donors. Development/fundraising experience preferred. If no direct fundraising experience, the incumbent must demonstrate highly transferable experience from another relationship-oriented field, such as private banking.
