Position Overview

Visiting faculty are employed by the university to teach or perform research for a limited time. This is a non-tenure track, temporary position. Service or research may be expected.

Department Specific Essential Job Functions

The University of Central Oklahoma Department of Theatre Arts invites applications for a temporary, non-tenure-track position in costume design. This position will include academic, design, and service responsibilities in a department offering B.F.A. degrees in Theatre Performance, Design and Technology, and Theatre Education/Communication. Teaching responsibilities will include undergraduate courses in stage costuming, costume design, stage make-up, and period styles. Additional responsibilities will include designing costumes/hair/make-up for theatre productions and assisting the costume shop staff with the College of Fine Arts and Design production season, which include works of theatre, musical theatre, dance, and opera. This position will also require service commitments to the university, college, department, and professional organizations; participation in shared governance of the theatre department; the recruitment and mentorship of undergraduate students in design and technology; and active participation in the advancement of the Design and Technology program. Finally, the successful applicant will have the knowledge, skill, and ability to collaborate and communicate effectively with all faculty, staff, and students in the College of Fine Arts and Design. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:



Teaching

Teach twelve credit hours per semester including courses in stage costume, costume design, stage make-up, period styles, and other courses as assigned.

Design one production per semester and assist the costume shop with additional productions.

Supervise and mentor students working on costume designs, portfolios, or independent projects.




Research/Creative/Scholarly Activity

Engage in professional activity in area of specialization at local, regional, and/or national level.

Participate in UCO Theatre Arts outreach projects, including work with local schools, colleges, community theatres, and/or professional theatres.



Service

Service commitments to the university, college, department, and professional organizations.

Active participation in the UCO Theatre Arts recruitment plan.

Qualifications/Experience Required

An earned doctorate degree awarded by a regionally accredited or internationally recognized institution in the field specified in the position announcement (exceptions require Academic Affairs approval).

Qualifications/Experience Preferred

M.F.A. in Costume Design

Minimum of three years university teaching experience.

Demonstrated excellence in teaching.

Demonstrated professional experience in costume/make-up/hair design.

Demonstrated experience in student recruitment and mentorship.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

Ability to teach courses in stage costume, costume design, stage make-up, and period styles.

Physical Demands

Repetitive movement of hands and fingers - typing and/or writing. Frequent standing, and/or sitting. Occasional walking, stooping, kneeling or crouching. Reach with hands and arms. Visually identify, observe and assess. Ability to communicate with supervisor/students/colleagues. Regular physical attendance required.
