The Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center is currently seeking a Research Associate III who will join the Cancer Modeling Shared Resources. This Core Facility provides qualified, cost effective and state-of-the art services to foster cancer research advancements and accelerate the discovery of tailored antitumor therapies leading to patient benefit. This person will be responsible for supporting a Core Facility to study and develop novel anti-cancer therapies in mice.The following job description reflects the support that this position must provide. Specific responsibilities of the position include and are not limited to: Produce complex laboratory assignments including planning and conducting experiments related to mouse model generation and characterization, devising treatment protocols and to the evaluation of response to treatment, including noninvasive imaging and pathological analysis. Conduct experiments related to developing mouse models of human disease, ranging from genetically engineered mice to patient-derived xenografts Be responsible of the mouse handling, husbandry and rodent breeding, colony management and associated technical procedures such as tail clipping, animal identification, weaning, plug assessment, DNA extraction, genotyping, observing and recording physical signs of rodent health, collection of routine diagnostic samples and their analysis, including necropsy and tissue and organ harvest, as well as histochemical, hematological (CBC, flow cytometry) and clinical chemistry analysis. Schedule and manage a variety of routine technical procedures on laboratory animals (genotyping, prepare and administer compounds to mice through different routes, observing and recording physical signs of rodent health, collection of routine diagnostic samples, necropsy and tissue and organ harvest) as well as non-routine procedures such as rodent complex surgical procedures (e.g., tumor hetero/orthotopic transplantations), and non-invasive imaging of mice, anesthesia and veterinary palliative care, maintain and prepare cell lines for use in animal experiments. Keep computer records, maintain/update data in computer-based applications/databases (including specialized animal management database), record experimental data, prepare data for analysis, and contribute to the analysis. Operate experimental imaging and analytical instrumentation, including the ability to provide veterinary technical assistance and animal support procedures used during small animal imaging procedures, conduct routine maintenance and quality assurance of imaging and analytical instrumentation, analyze imaging and analytical data (data processing, computational analysis, and modeling, record/data keeping, mining and organization, develop and improve experimental imaging and analytical techniques necessary for disease diagnosis and evaluation of treatments). Work independently and be able to solve technical and scientific problems, including the development and implementation of new lab procedures. Assist with lab management duties, including but not limited to the purchase of lab supplies, keeping inventory organized, and routine equipment maintenance Other duties as assigned by the Core Director of the Shared Resources.

Minimum Qualifications:

Qualified candidates must possess a Bachelor's degree in Animal science, Biology, Biological Sciences, Life Science and/or other related field, or equivalent experience. The successful candidate must have a minimum of Five years of experience with atleast three years of animal handling experience performing the routine as well as the specialized technical procedures mentioned above. Hands-on experience with in vivo small animal imaging preferred, ideally with multiple imaging modalities. Extensive knowledge of Standard Operating Procedures for animal facilities, understanding the basic requirements for maintaining (immunocompromised) laboratory animals, together with excellent basic computer skills and proficiency with Microsoft Office and animal/record management databases is required. Experience with some analytical techniques (PCR, hematology and clinical chemistry analyzer, histology) is preferred.

Patient safety is a top priority.
